In an exceptional and qualitative step among universities in the nation, the President of Aden University, Dr. Al-Khader Nasser Lasour, granted free seats in Bachelor’s and postgraduate programs for young men and women with disabilities. This is to promote their academic integration and ensure the continuity of their higher education on an equal footing with their peers.
Dr. Lasour affirmed in his speech during the meeting between the university’s leadership and representatives of the National Network for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities that this initiative is part of Aden University’s social and humanitarian role, stemming from a firm conviction that education is a right for all. He stated: “Building nations begins with investing in education and providing the opportunity for all groups to develop their capabilities, as every individual possesses an energy that must be nurtured to contribute to creating a better nation.”
He added: “Aden University has been and will remain a pioneer in supporting national initiatives, and this step is a practical embodiment of our commitment to integrating persons with disabilities and granting them their right to complete their higher studies without any obstacles.”
For her part, the head of the Network, Al-Romaisaa Yaqoub, expressed her thanks and appreciation for the efforts of the University President, praising his supportive stances on disability issues for years. She confirmed that this step aligns with the National Constitution and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities ratified by the country, which guarantees the right to inclusive education on an equal basis with others.
She also considered this initiative to be a role model and contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, especially Goal 4 related to ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the National Network for Advocating the Rights of Persons with Disabilities called upon the remaining universities in all governorates to follow this qualitative step, which grants hope to a new generation of youth capable of effective participation in the national development process.
The University President concluded his statement by saying: “Our message is clear: no exclusion and no marginalization. Education is a guaranteed right for all, and our mission is to open the doors of the university to all energies to build a stronger and better nation.”
Aden University’s step today is not just an administrative decision but a humanitarian and national message reflecting that the nation accommodates everyone, and the future is built only through the solidarity of all its groups.
