The Minister of Local Administration, Eng. Badr Basalma, met with Mr. Abdullah Bajri, the official for International Relations and Cooperation at the National Network, to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation and develop the local governance system to ensure inclusive decision-making and administrative efficiency.
During the meeting, Eng. Badr Basalma emphasized the importance of transitioning from the concept of “accessibility” to “genuine empowerment” for persons with disabilities. He stressed that the Ministry seeks to consolidate governance principles that involve all segments of society—foremost among them youth and people with disabilities—in drawing up developmental policies. His Excellency indicated that the coming period will witness tangible steps to translate these visions into a sustainable institutional reality within local authority bodies.
For his part, Mr. Abdullah Bajri presented the National Network’s vision regarding the necessity of integrating people with disabilities as an active force in decision-making, praising the Ministry’s engagement with the issues raised. During the meeting, Bajri submitted a working paper that included practical proposals for empowering people with disabilities and involving them in local planning to ensure the sustainability of their needs and achieve the principles of justice and equal opportunity.
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to continue coordination between the Ministry and the Network to ensure that the requirements of people with disabilities are included in future plans and policies, amid aspirations that these efforts will lead to tangible results that enhance their participation in the path of development and shaping the future.
